Picnics remind me of my childhood. Getting back to the simple things in life, it can bring so much joy. I’ve been wanting to take a picnic for a long time and three weeks ago on my run, I found the best spot for one (a grassy area along the water). I told Mark the next Sunday that we’re going on a little adventure. I grabbed a cooler, my mexican serape blanket and two cold LaCroix’s and we headed out. We left our phones in the car (key!) and we sat along the river on our fiesta blanket and talked. There were no distractions, just me, him, the ground, nature around us and the flowing sound of the water. It was bliss. We even laid back on the ground and looked up. When was the last time you’ve done that? To me, a picnic is life. It takes you to the ground, on a blanket and gives you peace. You can reconnect to the person you take a picnic with, even if its a solo picnic. Bring a book, a journal or just lay there in silence.
Celebrate something you’ve accomplished and create a celebration picnic! Pick a new spot you’ve never been to or one you’ve always wanted to visit and just go! While you’re there, talk about what you’re celebrating and why you’re celebrating it. Really make this time about connecting to what you’re proud of and what you’ve accomplished. Mark and I are preparing for our celebration picnic mid July.
I compiled some must-have picnic items and while I personally believe a cheese and fruit board is picnic perfect, here’s a easy guide to creating a fierce cheese board everyone will love. When was the last time you celebrated something you’ve accomplished or took a picnic, it’s time!
