Book Club: April, May & June Books

Reading has always been something I’ve enjoyed and gotten so much out of and also something I have to make a conscious effort for otherwise it escapes me. Since starting Book Club earlier this month and reading Primary Greatness, I have been reading for an hour everyday at 4pm. It helps to actually schedule it into my day by making it a priority in my day vs another “to-do.”

That’s one of the things I appreciate about Stephen Covey is his attitude around priorities and values. He teaches us in Primary Greatness to focus ourselves, our time and energy around what matters most to us…the things that are important but not necessarily urgent. It’s an interesting way to look at how we live our days. I’ve been doing the things each day around what matters most, not around what I normally used to which was putting out fires and urgent matters. I feel more in a flow with my work, energy and time and that I’m in control and most importantly that I’m purposely working towards the bigger picture. Stephen also teaches us how important it is to know that we are in control of our lives and that at any moment, we can write our script. Naturally, this just felt so on point with what I impart within Fierce Forward and what it means to Fierce Forward in your life. One of my favorite things he said was this:

I’m convinced that we can write and live our own scripts-more than most people acknowledge. I also know the price that must be paid. It’s a struggle. It requires visualization and affirmation. It involves living a life of integrity, starting with making and keeping promises, until the whole human personality-the senses, the thinking, the feeling, and the intuition-are no longer in conflict.

We are halfway through and for time sake, I’m sharing below the next 3 months of books so you can feel prepared and ready to prioritize self development into your life. The books I’m choosing have both been books I’ve personally read and loved and that so many women have recommended. My suggestion is to be open minded. Even if you’ve already read a book and didn’t connect with it, you never know how you will this time around as we all change and grow and receive in different ways at different times. If you see a book on the list that doesn’t connect with where you are right now, be open. Trust the process of being open and see where it takes you. To see where it takes you somewhere it otherwise wouldn’t have if you would have said you aren’t interested.

June’s book is Rising Strong by Brene’ Brown. You can pick up your books on Amazon, your local library or see if anyone you know has them to lend!
  2. Join my Facebook group here to share and connect with myself and others reading this book! Each month we’ll have a discussion around the book that will be announced in the group. Use this group as a way to share about what you’re learning, how you’re Fiercing Forward and for connection with other like-minded women building themselves stronger in mind, body, spirit & emotion!
  3. The Book List. Each month on the 15th, we’ll be having a discussion within the group led by a Tribe member! I will also be posting on the blog about the upcoming book to get and how many pages per day to read to finish by the end of the upcoming month!

Reading Outline for Primary Greatness

By only reading 6 pages per day in April, you will finish The Power of Less at the end of the month!

There are 170 pages in this book and 30 days in March, which means all you have to do is read 6 pages per day. Or you could break it up into 3 days of reading per week. Just divide total number of pages by how many days that month you want to commit to reading!
