How to: Lavender Infused Gin & The Freshest Cocktail

IMG_8552For Mother’s Day, I took my mom thirty minutes north to one of our favorite towns, the town of New Buffalo. In New Buffalo there is so much variety ranging from Farmer’s Market, Antiquing, great Coffee Shops, the Lake and some pretty amazing restaurants. On Sunday, because it was raining, I decided to scoop my aunt up as a surprise to my mom and head indoors to Journeyman Distillery, one of my favorite places with the fiercest grounds and libations. Mom and Melissa had Bloody Mary’s while I chose the Lavender Gimlet. The Gimlet was fresh, earthy, flowery and everything that whispered summer is here. I started speaking to the Bartender, Jennifer, about how they infuse their lavender gin and after five minutes of chatting about women empowerment, yoga and balance, she was happy to instruct me on how to not only infuse lavender gin but how to create this Lavender Gimlet at home. Recipe below.

Lavender Gimlet Recipe

  1. 2 ounces Lavender Gin
  2. 1/2 ounce fresh grapefruit juice (hand squeezed)
  3. 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice (hand squeezed)
  4. 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  5. Mix all together in shaker and pour

How to infuse Gin with Lavender

  1. Take two lavender stalks, strip lavender (just greens and stem remain) and place in gin bottle
  2. Let sit for 3 whole days and enjoy the fresh, Lavender Gimlet

IMG_8541The Journeyman has a bar and large room to enjoy a cocktail, take a whiskey tour (all made in house) and even take home house made Whiskey, Gin, Vodka and infused libations. The details inside the Distillery are beautifully rustic, something I have a soft spot for since it always holds a piece of history. This table for example is a long farm table made from old wood and bar beams.  IMG_8556After leaving Journeyman Distillery, we snapped this shot together. Pictured: Mel, me and Mom

You are not clear on which part to use in gin for infusing.

Just at Journeyman last night at their new restaurant Staymaker. Of course, I had to have my favorite drink, the Lavender Gimlet. Bought some gin so I can make my own at home. Thanks for the video and recipe. Can’t wait to infuse my gin just have to find some lavender sprigs and I will be good to go!

Next time you’re in town, stop and eat at the restaurant. The pizza is awesome!
