I posted this on our Facebook Community Page yesterday and got a lot of response from you all!!! You all FELT alot when it came to this picture…some felt happy I posted this because they have heard too many times of women complaining they aren’t losing enough when losing 3 pounds in one week is PLENTY enough and some just really needed to see this visual. It’s a POWERFUL visual. Next time you think losing 5 lbs is not enough, think about this picture and how much space 5lbs takes up. Even 1 lb. is a handful.
I’m just going to hop up here on my tiny soap box just SO YOU KNOW. . . Losing 1-2 Pounds per week is the HEALTHY way to lose weight. Losing MORE THAN 2 Pounds a week can mean a few things:
1. you have a significant amount of weight to lose
2. you’re losing water and muscle weight mostly
3. you’re not going about this the healthy way
PLEASE know that the way to PERMANENT and lasting weight loss is by being healthy day by day and keeping your perspective realistic. I’m telling you from first hand experience, DO NOT DIET HARD AND DEPRIVE YOURSELF OF CALORIES, A MACRO NUTRIENT OR THE SIMPLE PLEASURES IN LIFE, as Life is short and we must all have Balance. Now, if you’re working towards a goal or a competition, your perspective on this may differ slightly than mine. Coming from a background of a couple of competitions under my belt, having a front row seat behind the scenes in the Fitness Industry, talking to women in the Industry about their approach and how they get their bodies to the low body fat level, and an understanding of what kind of dieting is going on behind these scenes, I STRONGLY urge you to begin your prep early rather than going hard for 3 months. Mostly, just FEEL right about what you’re doing and as soon as you feel something is wrong, listen to your Intuition. As women, I find we tend to underestimate our power with this strong feeling of right and wrong.
What could happen you wonder, if you approach your health, unhealthfully?
1. hormone imbalance
2. major side effects like depression, anxiety, mood swings…..seriously.
3. metabolic damage
4. burnout, mental and physical
I choose to be honest in my job, whether it’s delivering a motivational post or information on how to approach health, I will always be brutally honest if I know the truth through my own experiences. That is truth and I lived it. I also worked for a company where I led Biggest Loser Groups for 2 years, seeing the same faces each year. They would come in, be so excited at first, give it their all and then when they ONLY lost 4 lbs in a week, step depressingly off the scale and not listen to my approval of it being more than ok that 4 lbs is ENOUGH. THIS is all a mind game. You are very vulnerable when you are working towards something with your body and physicality at stake. Be kind to yourself and allow yourself to fall down and get back up, because that’s what happens in life and if you don’t learn to take to being ok with that and knowing how to get back up, you’re going to find yourself wallowing in your fall, spiraling back to where you started. Build yourself up and give props where props are due. You deserve it.
